Can AC, HVAC & Furnace Air Filters Be Cut To Size?

In short, yes you can cut some AC, HVAC and furnace air filters to size. Before getting those scissors out, there are a few things to consider. The first is the filter’s design. Cutting some filters can cause them to lose their structural integrity. This can apply more to more expensive air filters, nevertheless, it can impact your AC, HVAC, or furnace. If the filter loses shape it can perform poorly. If the filter is underperforming your system may end up working harder than it needs to or you may end up with unwanted particles in the air of your home. Of course, other problems can domino from these initial issues. Next, you’ll want to consider the manufacturer recommendations. Some may provide approval that it’s ok to cut the filter. Others may recommend against it.

When it comes to AC, HVAC, and furnace filters though, the perfect fit is important to achieve maximum efficiency. While you may be able to get the filter to fit by cutting it - better solutions exist. You can shop custom filters if needed, or simply purchase a new filter that’s the right size. At Air Filters Delivered you can enter the dimensions you need and select your preferred MERV rating. We’ll get to work customizing your order and delivering it right to your door.

Are Custom Size AC, HVAC & Furnace Air Filters Good?

Custom AC, HVAC, and furnace air filters can help ensure you get just the right fit. They provide you the opportunity to customize the size and select your preferred MERV rating. Compared to standard size filters, they are competitively priced too and can be delivered right to your door. If you’re weighing the option of cutting a filter versus ordering a custom filter, the choice to order a custom filter is simple. Plus, it can help you save the hassle of trying to cut your current filter. Ensuring your AC, HVAC, and furnace filter are just the right fit is important to promote an efficiently running system. In addition, it can maximize capability so you can breathe cleaner air and your system can operate with less effort. If your filter is not working properly it can cause equipment to work overtime, potentially leading to issues.

How Do You Clean A Custom Size AC, HVAC & Furnace Air Filter?

Custom AC, HVAC, and furnace filters can be cleaned, or replaced; your choice. If you choose to clean a filter, be sure to check manufacturer product recommendations, although the following should be safe for most filters. There are some filters that are only intended to be replaced, not cleaned.

  1. Remove the filter
  2. Gently vacuum loose debris
  3. Lightly rinse the filter with warm water
  4. To remove additional dirt, use a soft brush if needed.
  5. Air dry before reinstalling filter
